{"id":498,"date":"2016-12-14T23:17:32","date_gmt":"2016-12-14T23:17:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/reech\/?p=498"},"modified":"2016-12-14T23:17:32","modified_gmt":"2016-12-14T23:17:32","slug":"december-15-deans-prize-award-ceremony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/reech\/2016\/12\/14\/december-15-deans-prize-award-ceremony\/","title":{"rendered":"DECEMBER 15 &#8211; Dean&#8217;s Prize Award Ceremony"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FNES Dean&#8217;s Prize Award Ceremony was held yesterday in the Building 85 Observatory, where 8\u00a0postdoctoral teaching and research fellows were presented with awards.<\/p>\n<p>The Dean&#8217;s Prize is an annual event which was started 4 years ago to recognise and reward excellence of postdoctoral research and teaching fellows in one of five categories; research, enterprise, outreach, education and citizenship. \u00a0Staff across the faculty nominated a total of eighteen fellows from across the faculty and the nominees were:<\/p>\n<table style=\"height: 347px\" width=\"559\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"295\">Gaye Bayrakci<\/p>\n<p>Adokiye Berepiki<\/p>\n<p>Richard Bradshaw<\/p>\n<p>Steve Brewer<\/p>\n<p>Joanne Cowan<\/p>\n<p>Anya Crocker<\/p>\n<p>James Dillon<\/p>\n<p>Pedro Dinis<\/p>\n<p>Simon Gerrard<\/td>\n<td width=\"295\">Laura Grange<\/p>\n<p>Mikiembo Kukwikila<\/p>\n<p>James Lewis<\/p>\n<p>Catriona Menzies<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Potter<\/p>\n<p>Nikolaos Skliris<\/p>\n<p>Torben Stichel<\/p>\n<p>Zhong Wang<\/p>\n<p>Wenjian Zhang<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Invited guest\u00a0Dr Sarah Caddick, Neuroscience Advisor to Lord Sainsbury of Turville, Gatsby Foundation, gave a short inspirational talk prior to presenting the winners with their prize.<\/p>\n<p>And the winners&#8217; were:<\/p>\n<p>Research &#8211; James Lewis (Chem) and Catriona Menzies (OES)<\/p>\n<p>Education &#8211; James Dillon (BioSci)<\/p>\n<p>Enterprise &#8211; Nikolaos Skliris (OES)<\/p>\n<p>Public Engagement &#8211; Simon Gerrard (Chem) and Torben Stichel (OES)<\/p>\n<p>Citizenship &#8211; Jo Cowan (BioSci)<\/p>\n<p>All-round &#8211; Richard Bradshaw (Chem)<\/p>\n<p>Professor&#8217;s Lindy Holden-Dye and Rachael Mills selected the winners from the list of nominees,\u00a0after the event Lindy said<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We had a fantastic number of nominations representing outstanding contributions across a range of activities from citizenship to research. \u00a0It was a hard decision selecting the winners, congratulations to all 18 fellows who were nominated.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>and the final word of the event came from the Dean of FNES, Professor Rachael Mills<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Early Career Researchers and Teaching Fellows are at the heart of our research and education activity within the faculty. \u00a0We are celebrating outstanding contributions across many areas with these Dean&#8217;s Prizes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If you would like to nominate any research or teaching fellows for a 2017 Dean&#8217;s Prize in any one of the categories listed above then please contact\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:fnesdeanery@soton.ac.uk\">fnesdeanery@soton.ac.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FNES Dean&#8217;s Prize Award Ceremony was held yesterday in the Building 85 Observatory, where 8\u00a0postdoctoral teaching and research fellows were presented with awards.
