{"id":450,"date":"2016-12-07T22:50:00","date_gmt":"2016-12-07T22:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/reech\/?p=450"},"modified":"2016-12-07T22:52:13","modified_gmt":"2016-12-07T22:52:13","slug":"december-8th-hans-schuppe-imaging-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/reech\/2016\/12\/07\/december-8th-hans-schuppe-imaging-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"DECEMBER 8th &#8211; Hans Schuppe Imaging Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday (December 7th)\u00a0was the inaugural awarding of the Hans Schuppe Imaging Prize, a prize established in memory of Hans Schuppe, who headed the imaging facility in Biological Sciences until 2013.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Both undergraduate and post-graduate students within Biological Sciences were invited to submit a\u00a0biology-related image for consideration for the prize.<\/p>\n<p>The judging panel, consisting of Dr Mark Willett and Dr Jo Bailey, selected Emily Farthing&#8217;s 3D fluorescence image of a leaf cell as the winner and it is now being displayed on Level 6 outside the meeting rooms.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-454\" src=\"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/reech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2016\/12\/Hans_Schuppe_unveil-169x300.jpg\" alt=\"hans_schuppe_unveil\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/reech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2016\/12\/Hans_Schuppe_unveil-169x300.jpg 169w, https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/reech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2016\/12\/Hans_Schuppe_unveil-768x1367.jpg 768w, https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/reech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2016\/12\/Hans_Schuppe_unveil-575x1024.jpg 575w, https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/reech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2016\/12\/Hans_Schuppe_unveil.jpg 1456w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 169px) 100vw, 169px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Emily said of her win:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I\u2019m so happy to be part of this award remembering Hans Schuppe, who originally trained me in microscopy. This picture was quite an important part of my Ph.D and it\u2019s great to be able to share it with everyone.
