The following are some examples of the impact and potential of social media (and because of that social networks also):

Utilizing sentiment analysis to determine what product to advertise to a user on a social network platform based on the sentiments of their posts. The analysis is done on the words included in the user’s posts[1]. This is a good example on how a social network can be used as a business tool. On this point JAMZ can also use this information to

The advantages and disadvantages of using social media for music education, and how to minimizing the negative effects of it [2]. This article talks about how the use of social media allows the student to learn in a environment in which he/she is used to interact. It also mentions how social networks “are well suited for facilitating group discussions and peer learning”. On the other hand it mentions disadvantages like cyber bulling which has to be avoid with a track from the administrator on the comments on the site. On this matter JAMZ will have a section to have people aware of these potential problems and ways to report a user with a bad behavior. The article also mentions how there are concerns about the use of Facebook personal data for profit and encourages musicians to use “education specific sites” that can be more trusted. On this matter JAMZ will have simple settings with no ambiguity or difficulty of understanding in order to be trusted by the users of the protection of the information posted on the application.

A case study about the impact of social networks on the creativity among their users was carried out in an Australian city [3]. JAMZ will have the power to connect people from overseas but also the power to connect people from within the same area or region, so the social impact can be really big if there are areas in which a lot of people are interested in music collaboration depending on their likes on music styles.

Utilizing social media as a tool to help music teachers [4]. This article talks about how social media can help the teaching of music from a personal learning and social classroom standpoint. The article recall the war between MySpace and Facebook and give the credit to Facebook as the winner because of the adaptation as a tool for learning and business option. It mentions the Facebook groups and Facebook pages (which can be public or private) as a way to connect people with similar interests. On this aspect JAMZ use the power of a social network to connect people but focused on the music industry, giving the users the tools to create and record music online, so this will be not just another Facebook group but the complete platform for music collaboration.

These studies provide good background information on the use of social media in music, education and the impact of user’s behavior. However, most of them do not focus on the business aspect but JAMZ will have a balance between profit-making and learning tool for teachers and students to use giving their users their knowledge and trust about what the application is and how it works in all aspects.

[1] ROSA, RL; RODR?GUEZ, DZ; BRESSAN, G.
