Promoting Behaviour for Learning

The focus of these activities is on promoting behaviours for learning not on managing inappropriate behaviours.

Activity 1: Developing positive relationships

If you have not done so already, find an opportunity to have a chat with every child in the class. This may be individually/as part of a pair or in a small group. Find out what they are interested in and combine this with any other information you feel is relevant (from your CM). If you choose to record this information, ensure that this is done professionally and held confidentially in line with school policy.

Activity 2: Planning for and actively promoting behaviour for learning

Video record yourself teaching part of a lesson for about 10 minutes to the class or a group. Watch it back and reflect on what you had planned to do and what you then did to promote behaviour for learning (including strategies used to engage the children, motivate them, promote perseverance, risk taking, & participation etc). Use this opportunity to build on what you learnt in LATiS beginning in Week 2.

What worked effectively and what might be improved/changed next time? Make some notes ready to discuss in the tutorial (SP1 only).

Be ready to discuss what you gained from getting to know the children and videoing yourself. We will discuss how/why these activities and the information gathered might be useful to you in promoting behaviour for learning.
