In years 2 and 3, further relevant experience will be gained, for example in NMR/crystallography, protein modelling, in vivo models, microfluidics, biomedical devices, RNAseq and proteomics. Annual networking and development opportunities include Research Away Days, Key Messaging courses, Public Engagement activities, Careers Events and Enterprise Days.
Presentation skills and leadership will be further strengthened through participation at the Southampton Medical and Health Research Conference and the annual Immunology conference, held in association with the local British Society of Immunology group (Wessex Immunology Group) with students in year 2 and 3 assisting conference organisation. In year 4, greater emphasis will be placed on supporting thesis completion, data publication and post-PhD career planning though career mentoring and leadership programmes and potential transition placement (Figure 1).
