Student well-being is a priority here at Southampton
We offer embedded dedicated student Support Services, including: First Support team (crisis support), Student_Life_team (24h support) and Enabling_Services (Counselling Service supporting students with disabilities, long-term conditions including mental health conditions and autism spectrum disorders, or specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyspraxia) accessible via no appointment Drop-In, email, telephone and Live-Chat formats
In addition, proactive workshops are offered to build resilience and teach strategies for good mental health. Safe spaces exist to engage and share experiences amongst students. Examples include the student-led forum where postgraduate representatives feed back to pastoral staff; ‘conversation groups’ facilitated by University counsellors, and ‘off-campus retreat days’ coordinated by Enabling Services. Additional events are held for the wider postgraduate community e.g. Doctoral-College-Roadshow on ‘Postgraduate Researcher mental health and wellbeing: humanising the PhD’.
