{"id":15,"date":"2018-03-16T13:12:16","date_gmt":"2018-03-16T13:12:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/meetingofminds\/?p=15"},"modified":"2018-04-29T11:11:16","modified_gmt":"2018-04-29T10:11:16","slug":"team-meeting-on-tuesday-20th-feb-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/meetingofminds\/2018\/03\/16\/team-meeting-on-tuesday-20th-feb-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Team Meeting on the 20th Feb 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Assigning Roles to the Team<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Before the team met for the first time, members filled out a Belbin type exercise (see link below) to see what roles different team members might be comfortable with.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.123test.com\/team-roles-test\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">www.123test.com\/team-roles-test\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Team members shared their results and it was recognised that there were similar Belbin types in team. \u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dominant Belbin types on the team included: <\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Innovators who are independent generators of ideas, <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Drivers who push and challenge the team, and <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Executives who are good organisers. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-114 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/meetingofminds\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/266\/2018\/03\/belbin.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/meetingofminds\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/266\/2018\/03\/belbin.png 440w, https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/meetingofminds\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/266\/2018\/03\/belbin-295x300.png 295w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 440px) 100vw, 440px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Image of team members results taken from\u00a0https:\/\/www.123test.com\/team-roles-test\/<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">So it was decided to break down work by disciplinary background. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The following team members would lead on particular elements, but with contributions and agreement from others. <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kholoud and Ema to lead on technical development<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Supanoot to lead on blog administration and design (e.g of presentation for Dragons Den)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nina to act as project manager and focus on social\/ethical\/standards issues, and support any specific user research. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Agreed <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Before this first meeting, each member of the Team had been asked to come up with an idea for a social network.\u00a0 This approach was based on research on brainstorming.<\/p>\n<p>Various studies have found that groups that follow the classic rules of brainstorming (i.e bring people together to generate as many ideas as possible and then sort through these as a group), result in fewer ideas (and fewer good ideas) than individuals would have developed alone (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1207\/s15324834basp1201_1\">Mullen et al 2010<\/a>). Today it is recommended that brainstorming include phases of both divergent and convergent thinking &#8211; starting with individuals generating ideas on their own before bringing them to the group.<\/p>\n<p>Several ideas\u00a0 for a social network were put forward by different members of the team, but it was decided by an absolute majority that Kholouds idea was the preferred option.<\/p>\n<p>Kholouds idea was to design a social networks for both student and professional academics to support \u2018matching\u2019 students to supervisors.<\/p>\n<p>The team also agreed a\u00a0 project name that was put forward by Nina.\u00a0 This was\u00a0 \u2018MeetingsofMinds\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><b>Next steps\/Actions<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Supanoot to set up Blog via link provided by Dave, and send others link.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kholoud to draft 200 words about project by Wednesday 21st.
