{"id":221,"date":"2017-05-19T11:12:46","date_gmt":"2017-05-19T10:12:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/medicallyspeaking\/?p=221"},"modified":"2017-05-19T11:45:43","modified_gmt":"2017-05-19T10:45:43","slug":"furthering-the-enterprise-agenda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/medicallyspeaking\/2017\/05\/19\/furthering-the-enterprise-agenda\/","title":{"rendered":"Furthering the Enterprise agenda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Faculty were delighted to be awarded two MRC grants which will further the Enterprise agenda.\u00a0 Both are awarded with the aim of translating our high quality basic research to the clinic and are designed to fund translation rather than basic discovery.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The MRC Confidence in Concept grant will fund projects of around \u00a350k to perform proof of concept type experiments.\u00a0 The board to evaluate these applications includes individuals from the FoM, the wider University and also external advisors.\u00a0 This will ensure that the highest quality of applications are selected and that they are at the correct stage of translation for the scheme.<\/p>\n<p>The first round of applications has gone live and has a closing date of the 16<sup>th<\/sup> of June.\u00a0 We will run a number of rounds so, if you are not lucky first time round please try again.\u00a0 We will endeavour to provide feedback on unsuccessful applications so that this can be an iterative process.\u00a0\u00a0 We now have a live UoS <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"http:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/medicine\/business_partnership\/confidence-in-concept.page\">web\u00a0page<\/a><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>for guidance notes and application forms.<\/p>\n<p>The second award is a proximity to discovery award.\u00a0 Designed to support novel interactions between Academia and Industry this adds a further strand to \u201cspinning-out\u201d through the UoS <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"https:\/\/futureworlds.com\">Future Worlds scheme<\/a><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0 We now have additional dedicated MRC funding to support health-related activity within Future Worlds.
