1. Knowledge
\nIf one\u00a0has a wide range of reading interests, almost everything read fills the\u00a0head with new information, and one\u00a0never knows just when it might come in handy. The more knowledge attained, the better-equipped one\u00a0will be to tackle any challenges faced.<\/p>\n

2. Mental Stimulation
\nThe brain is a muscle, therefore it requires exercise to strong and flexible. Reading helps keep \u00a0mental faculties in shape and also helps to improve the\u00a0memory as one\u00a0keeps track of the storyline.<\/p>\n

3. Improved Vocabulary
\nAs one\u00a0keep reading, there will undoubtedly\u00a0be exposure to more words, and those words will\u00a0inevitably make their way into day-to-day vocabulary. Being articulate and well-spoken is of great help in any profession, and the knowledge that one\u00a0can speak to higher-ups with\u00a0clarity, is an enormous boost to the\u00a0self-esteem. The exposure to published, well-written work has a noted effect on ones\u00a0own writing. The cadence, fluidity, and writing styles of thine\u00a0favourite author will invariably influence ones\u00a0own work.<\/p>\n

4. Relaxation
\nWhen overwhelmed with stress at work, or strained personal relationships, fatigued due to exams, or any other countless issues faced in daily life, it all just slips away when one gets\u00a0lost in a great book. A well-written novel can transport one\u00a0to other realms, allowing \u00a0retreat from the weight of responsibilities for a short breather. While an engaging article could\u00a0open\u00a0the\u00a0mind to new possibilities as one\u00a0approaches age-old conundrums from a new angle.<\/p>\n

And my personal favourite, It is mostly low-budget. For others out there that share the same sentiment, reading can be a cheap source of entertainment. The local library is a great place for some quiet time and most libraries exchange their stock between themselves regularly to give access to new reading material. Or as we are now in the digital age, the internet has multiple sources where there is\u00a0downloadable e-books or pdf files to browse.<\/p>\n

To quote a certain sadistic author, \u201c… a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge.\u201d
