Literally, it plays a vital role in good mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety. The key however, is getting enough quality sleep at the right time

.

Extensive studies have been made or the past decade about the importance of good quality sleep, how it keeps you alert, helps improve learning and with problem solving skills. The general consensus is the 8-7 hours at a stretch a day. But hey, as future working adults (and engineers), that’s not always a option. Personally, I find a quick nap in the afternoon after lunch helps restore alertness and lets me stay on the ball. To quote a study “NASA found that a 40-minute nap improved performance by 34% and alertness 100% for sleepy military pilots and astronauts “.

However, too much sleep can cause one to wake up and feel groggy the rest of the day. Sometimes dragging on and keeping one up late into the night. Kinda ironic, given that the entire reason you can’t sleep is because you took a nap to make up for lost sleep. Resulting in messing up your circadian rhythm, more commonly known as your body-clock.

Sleep deprivation is getting quite serious in certain countries. So much that Nap Cafes are becoming increasingly popular. These ‘Sleeperies’, allow a weary soul to catch a breather in a quiet environment free from distractions, to recharge before tackling the next agenda on their hectic schedule.

With all that said though, I think I’ll call it a day.

Cheers.

(The images were sourced online and belong to their respective owners.)

Be it a catnap, catching forty winks, an after lunch siesta or just dozing off randomly in class(sorry Sir).
