An internship is a short-term period of work within an organisation, usually during the Easter or Summer vacation. An internship can be paid or unpaid, and is usually not part of your degree programme. A placement is a longer-term period of work, undertaken as part of your degree programme. They usually last for one year (8-12 months), are paid, and have more strict criteria applied to them in order to meet the requirements of the placement year.
