Recently The Icarus Project<\/strong> <\/em>travelled to Milton Keynes for the first in a series of outreach days in collabor\"ifly\"<\/a>ation with indoor skydiving experts iFly<\/strong>. The scheme, titled The Icarus Flight School<\/strong>, introduces school children to the art of skydiving and wingsuits, and aims to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) in an\u00a0imaginative and fun manner.<\/p>\n

Our very own Dr. Angelo Grubisic (Project Coordinator), Andrew Honey (Project Lead), and Ollie Strong (CFD Lead) led the interactive teaching sessions, coupled with the chance for the students to undertake two unforgettable indoor flights to put into practice the skills they’ve been taught by the team.<\/p>\n

The day was an undeniable success, with Dr. Angelo commenting:<\/p>\n

“From the start of the project, the aim has always been to develop an outreach and social component to the project. The Icarus Flight School interactive sessions give students an applied understanding of the physics of flight. They’re also a great way to demonstrate the kind of research performed at our university giving young students insight into higher education.”<\/span><\/div>\n
