Each post can be assigned any number of categories and tags.
Categories allows for broad grouping of post topics e.g. ‘food’, and categories can also have a hierarchy e.g.
Food
– Sweet
– Savoury
Tags have NO hierarchy and are typically used to describe a post in more detail. For example, if your post was about dolphin shaped fairy cakes with special icing it could have the category ‘Sweet’ and the tags ‘cakes, icing, dolphin’.
Tags can be displayed as a ‘tag cloud’ which can be displayed in the widget bar, and categories can also be display in the widget bar, but typically as a hierarchical list.
For standard sites it is good practice to change the name of default category from ‘Uncategoried’ to ‘News’
