The GAIN Centre is hosting the PSA Women and Politics Specialist Group’s Annual Conference ‘Troubled Times: Gender and Politics in the 21st<\/sup> Century<\/em>‘.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welcoming papers from across time and space, this conference analyses the causes and impact of equality backlash and backsliding while centring gender politics scholarship and activism that resist these trends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We invite paper submissions that explore a wide range of topics related to gender and politics emphasising the contemporary challenges and opportunities for social change in troubled times. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Submission: <\/strong>Please send 250 word abstracts to psa.women.politics@googlemail.com<\/a> by Friday 11th<\/sup> April 2025, 5pm<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Registration<\/strong>: Early bird registration opens on Monday 28th<\/sup> April 2025. Registration fees will be \u00a320. Detailed information on registration fees, travel grants, and conference accommodations will be available on our website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Event: Challenges of Studying Gender and Inequalities in the 21st Century: A Roundtable<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The event is open to all (regardless of whether you study gender and inequality) but we are especially keen to welcome PhD students who might be at the start of their research careers and who are working on these topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Join us for an engaging and informal discussion on the evolving challenges of studying gender and inequality in the 21st century. As societal norms shift and global dynamics change, the complexities of gender-based disparities continue to intersect with race, ethnicity, class, disability, sexuality, and religion in unprecedented ways. Scholars working on these topics from across the school will reflect upon how these intersections shape our understanding of inequality, the methods used to study these issues, and the critical conversations needed to drive lasting social change.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Speakers include Prof Elizabeth Evans (PAIR, GAIN Co-Director), Dr Valentina Tonei (Economics and Chair of the ESPS Athena Swan Cttee), Dr Maria Villares-Varela (Sociology), Dr Charlie Walker (Sociology, Co-Director for Eastern European and Eurasian Studies),  and chaired by Dr Emilia Belknap (PAIR, GAIN Assistant Director).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
