{"id":77,"date":"2016-06-30T11:05:25","date_gmt":"2016-06-30T10:05:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/fss-summerschools2016\/?page_id=77"},"modified":"2018-11-29T11:16:13","modified_gmt":"2018-11-29T11:16:13","slug":"wuyi-mountain-tour","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/fss-summerschools\/wuyi-mountain-tour\/","title":{"rendered":"Wuyi Mountain Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A visit to the <strong>Wuyi Mountain Scenic Resort<\/strong> was always going to be one of the highlights of the trip.\u00a0 We didn&#8217;t have as much time as originally planned as our train was cancelled due to an impending typhoon.\u00a0 We still had two fantastic days in which to visit the Water Curtain Cave, climb the Great King peak and take a bamboo raft ride down the nine-bend river.\u00a0 The scenery was absolutely breathtaking.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The river rafting experience, for me, summed up China perfectly. Seats placed on the raft rather than being connected to the bamboo stalks of which the craft was made, a light warning from our tour guide, Sue, not to move too much and randomly assigned life jackets that felt like they were more for show instead of possibly saving our lives. And yet here I am writing this blog, amazing. The casual cruising into other rafts without much care, when trying to overtake the boats in front, lead me to the conclusion that if it wasn\u2019t for the physical nature of the steering that the drivers would have joined us looking at the stunning views.\u00a0 If the waterways were roads I\u2019d be dead, but the point is that they\u2019re not. Do I think the drivers are slightly insane? Yes, but I am in China and probably would be disappointed with anything less.&#8221;\u00a0 Caitlin<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-291\"
