{"id":65,"date":"2017-09-13T04:41:39","date_gmt":"2017-09-13T03:41:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/evolution21stcentury\/?p=65"},"modified":"2017-11-16T09:53:37","modified_gmt":"2017-11-16T09:53:37","slug":"galapagos-islands-come","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/evolution21stcentury\/galapagos-islands-come\/","title":{"rendered":"Galapagos Islands, here we come!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This morning, Tuesday the 12th September, I arrived on the Galapagos Islands,\u00a0 The experience was quite amazing, but almost didn&#8217;t happen.\u00a0 I was checked in for my flight from Heathrow all the way to Galapagos, Baltra, with the transfers in Bogata, Colombia and Guayaquil, Ecuador.\u00a0 I met the Southampton students at Guayaquil airport, went through the important biosecurity checks to get the documentation to get onto the Islands, and then dropped off my bags!\u00a0 I had my boarding pass, given to me in London!<\/p>\n<p>We all got to the gates, I was filled with excitement and the anticipation of getting to the Islands&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-66\" src=\"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/evolution21stcentury\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/224\/2017\/09\/UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_c916-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_c916\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/evolution21stcentury\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/224\/2017\/09\/UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_c916-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/evolution21stcentury\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/224\/2017\/09\/UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_c916-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/evolution21stcentury\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/224\/2017\/09\/UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_c916.jpg 724w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It nearly didn&#8217;t happen.\u00a0 My seat, 27C did not, could not, exist on a plane that had only 25 rows of seats.<\/p>\n<p>What would I do?\u00a0 I played the &#8216;I have to get these students to Galapagos card&#8217;, and offered to fly seated on the toilet!<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Cabin Attendant was really helpful, but it still wasn&#8217;t looking good&#8230;.
