Further examples can be found in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/education-green-space\/eigs-guide\/\">EIGS Guide booklet\u00a0<\/a>which can be downloaded from the EIGS Guide tab on the menu above. Examples of these include using\u00a0old tyres to make planters, which can be planted with pollinator friendly plants to attract bees- follow this link for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rhs.org.uk\/advice\/pdfs\/plants-for-bees.pdf\">RHS Perfect for Pollinators Plant\u00a0List<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some teachers also mentioned that they didn\u2019t know how to identify the plants around their school grounds, so that\u2019s why we\u2019ve included the teachers ID guide, which can be found in the<a href=\"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/education-green-space\/resources\/\">&nbsp;resources&nbsp;<\/a>section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To transform your school grounds to a biodiversity friendly area, you don\u2019t have to spend vast amounts of money. Find out more<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ltl.org.uk\/index.php\">&nbsp;here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s a link from The Guardian about some basic things which could be considered-&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/teacher-network\/2016\/feb\/03\/five-easy-ways-urban-schools-can-experiment-with-outdoor-learning\">5 easy ways urban schools can experiment with outdoor learning<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This links to some other important benefit which can come from learning outside the classroom-&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lotc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/School-Grounds-Handout.pdf\">LOTC<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Case Study: Bassett Green Primary School<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.efolio.soton.ac.uk\/blog\/education-green-space\/files\/2017\/04\/20170406_135115.jpg\" alt=\"20170406_135115\" class=\"wp-image-345\" width=\"340\" height=\"191\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Basset Green Primary School in Southampton have done a fantastic job of making the most of their school grounds. Here\u2019s a few things they have got up to!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here at Bassett Green we try and use our green areas by planting seasonal fruit\/veg. We have recently planted trees that were kindly donated by Woodland Trust. As well as this we\u2019ve got six wooden planters that contain a variety of shrubs, and we also plant bulbs in them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have a concrete pond with a variety of wildlife, Eco\u2019s (The&nbsp;Eco-club they run for their pupils)&nbsp;built a bug hotel,&nbsp;and in the near future, we intend&nbsp;to plant wild flowers to encourage butterflies and&nbsp;bees.&nbsp;We\u2019re also&nbsp;thinking&nbsp;about making hedgehog houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The school composts all of our fruit\/veg scraps then transfer onto our plant beds.&nbsp;Year 5 have been working with the&nbsp;Country Trust and&nbsp;have created a wonderful green space, in which they have grown various vegetables,&nbsp;which are later sold at school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.efolio.soton.ac.uk\/blog\/education-green-space\/files\/2017\/04\/20170406_165815.jpg\" alt=\"20170406_165815\" class=\"wp-image-347\" width=\"497\" height=\"279\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.efolio.soton.ac.uk\/blog\/education-green-space\/files\/2017\/04\/20170406_165846.jpg\" alt=\"20170406_165846\" class=\"wp-image-348\" width=\"497\" height=\"279\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This section of the&nbsp;website shows some ways you, and your class, can make use of any outside space you may have.
