Football Animation

I am interested in making an animated trailer/ad break for this project.  I have always been interested in both football and animation, therefore I believe that it would be a good idea if I combined the two.

Below is a combination of different animated football scenes.  The main reason I am showing this is because of the style of this animation.  I feel that it would be perfect as a trailer for the premiere league, if I were to animate a memorable moment in history.  The drawings within the animation frames are quite simplistic in this video below, however I will aim to incorporate my own illustration skills – making the animation more detailed and aesthetically pleasing.  This will be my first ever attempt at animation, therefore I am researching how to produce a professional animation.

All though the animation needs to be executed at a high standard, the other important factor is the audio.  I need to include the commentary from the historic moment to create a better atmosphere, and maybe incorporate some music also as it is a trailer.  Overall, I am looking forward to it!

Make your photos MOVE and COME TO LIFE! Photoshop Tutorial

Instead of using clips, I will be using images in my title sequence but I don’t want it to be still I want to move to bring that ‘magical element to it. I was able to find a tutorial on youtube that showed me how to animate my images.

Here is one of the images I animated using the tutorial.

Abstraction in Film

I have chosen to make a film for a fine art gallery setting, one that builds on my current practice as an artist. As a painter and digital artist, i’m drawn to the similarities in image construction between art and painting, and films potential for abstraction over a time based medium, and so in my initial research i came across stills from a piece by Cory Arcangel entitled ‘Video Painting’ (2008)

 (3 of 4)

The piece is a two hour long improvisation using various image generation technology, notably final cut, an amiga toaster, vidicon cameras, etc. It was then recorded onto a VHS tape, giving it a distinctly Lo Fi feel, complementary to the more complex visuals produced via a multitude of methods. It is essentially a series of compositions, a painting morphing over time, entirely abstract and devoid of narrative. But unfortunately the video isn’t available to view, the only copy held by the smithsonian american art museum, so when looking for similar works, i found Toshio Matsumoto.

Matsumoto has produced various feature films but two of his experimental shorts, Relation , and in particular, Shift, caught my interest.  Produced in 1982 and utilizing cutting edge technology at the time, Shift deconstructs a building into geometric architectural form producing a series of puzzle like graphics that reduce the residential building to an off-kilter array of horizontal blocks shifting to the accompaniment of collaborator Yasuke Inagaki’s electronic drones, the result a somewhat eerie and somber film, it’s deliberate destruction of symmetry, cool toned greys and blues combined with occasional graphics,  the ambient drones, and its acknowledgement of the medium (the production is clear, the technological aspects of the film are not hidden we are confronted with what is clearly manipulated footage) producing a dreamlike, hypnotic experience.

TONY MOLY 2

When I was researching into how Tony Moly advertised on their social media account, this one really stood out to me as it was also another fun way of promoting a collaborative product. Even though I would have loved to of gone down the theme of using arcade games with the products, I would have found it tricky to film a stop animation because the products I’m focusing on are on the larger compared to the smaller products in this clip. Overall I do really like the clip and if I was working with smaller products I would have recreated something like this as its a great way on promoting a product in a fun and interesting way and I haven’t forgotten about, making it a rememberable advertisement.

The Goonies/ Cyndi Lauper

My commercial will be set in the present day but draws heavily on ’80s nostalgia, particularly adventure films like The Goonies. Much like The Goonies, my commercial follows a straight-forward linear narrative of a group of kids finding treasure using an old pirate map.

I made a decision early on to not include any actual sounds or dialogue – just Devo’s “Whip It”. So I needed to be able to clearly convey a linear narrative with no dialogue , almost like a silent film. To me, Cyndi Lauper “Goonies R Good Enough” music video is a great example of this, making good use of wide shots to blatantly show actions.

Furthermore, in the actual film the song is used to start the adventure, filling the audience with anticipation for whats to come.

Josie’s

Josie’s promote their restaurant/cafe on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter – very online based. When the brief was set, I decided to film at Josie’s as they didn’t have their own video. However, a week after I made my decision, Josie’s released a mini video on their Instagram. This didn’t stop me though as their video show quick little snippets of their restaurant and doesn’t showcase their restaurant fully. Their video also doesn’t show any customers – which is a very important factor to include in a video.

TONYMOLY Stop Animation

TonyMoly is the brand I will focus on during the 60 second and gone project, looking into there social media accounts Tony Moly love experimenting with stop animation and being creative on how presenting their products in more fun and unique ways compared to a normal advertisement you would normally see through your TV.

This video has given me ideas on what to do when it comes to filming for my commercial video, I would like to incorporate a makeup bag into the products during filming, Even though I would be adding more products to the picture I don’t think it would take the focus away.
