{"id":147,"date":"2017-06-02T10:36:10","date_gmt":"2017-06-02T10:36:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.efolio.soton.ac.uk\/blog\/discoverneuroscience\/?page_id=147"},"modified":"2019-03-14T13:58:01","modified_gmt":"2019-03-14T13:58:01","slug":"step-3-page-1","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/discoverneuroscience\/for-students\/project-guide\/step-3-getting-into-the-lab\/step-3-page-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Step 3 Page 1 &#8211; Keeping a Lab Book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif\">When you get into the lab it is really important to manage your time, as you won&#8217;t have that many lab hours! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif\">As previously mentioned you should first consider doing a <em><span class='tooltipsall tooltipsincontent classtoolTips9'>Pilot Study<\/span><\/em>, this will check that everything works as expected and will save you time in the long run.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif\">To help manage your time you should keep a <em><span class='tooltipsall tooltipsincontent classtoolTips17'>Lab Book<\/span>. <\/em> A <span class='tooltipsall tooltipsincontent classtoolTips17'>Lab Book<\/span> is basically a diary of everything you do in the lab, and you can record results of your experiments in it.\u00a0It is also worth noting any other factors that may be effecting that day&#8217;s results, such as it being a really hot day, or a piece of equipment not working. This gives you a record of exactly why some results may not be as expected when you come to analyse your <span class='tooltipsall tooltipsincontent classtoolTips22'>Data<\/span>.
