{"id":91,"date":"2015-12-11T13:22:19","date_gmt":"2015-12-11T13:22:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.efolio.soton.ac.uk\/blog\/digitallearning\/?p=91"},"modified":"2023-08-15T16:31:41","modified_gmt":"2023-08-15T15:31:41","slug":"ipad-coffee-club-at-sgh-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/digital-learning\/2015\/12\/11\/ipad-coffee-club-at-sgh-3\/","title":{"rendered":"iPAD Coffee Club at SGH"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At a festive-themed iPAD coffee club we explored some of the <a href=\"http:\/\/the12appsofchristmas.zohosites.com\/\">12 apps of Christmas<\/a> recommended by the Dublin Institute of Technology.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew O&#8217;Malley has tweeted <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AndrewOMalley\/status\/674560087747260416\">further details of apps<\/a> recommended in response to various questions raised during the session.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/the12appsofchristmas.zohosites.com\/App1.html\"><strong>OneNote<\/strong><\/a> was suggested for managing notes, and can include photos of handwritten notes and audio recordings.<\/p>\n<p>After the recent update to iOS 9, the iPad <strong>Notes<\/strong> app has a number of new features. Documents such as pdfs can now be added to Notes, along with links to websites and maps. It&#8217;s also possible to set up a check list, use the sketch tool, and include images.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew recommended <a href=\"http:\/\/www.papersapp.com\/\"><strong>Papers<\/strong><\/a> for organising and annotating pdfs, and managing citations. The free <a href=\"https:\/\/acrobat.adobe.com\/us\/en\/products\/mobile-app.html\"><strong>Adobe Acrobat<\/strong><\/a> app can also be used to collate and annotate pdfs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/the12appsofchristmas.zohosites.com\/App2.html\"><strong>Office Lens<\/strong><\/a> is an app that can be used to scan documents, and includes character recognition so that scanned text can be exported to Word and edited. Note that you will need to search for this an iPhone app in the store.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodnotesapp.com\/\"><strong>GoodNotes<\/strong><\/a> was suggested for hand-writing notes and annotations on an iPad.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/the12appsofchristmas.zohosites.com\/App4.html\"><strong>Pocket<\/strong><\/a> is a useful app for capturing and organising content found online in order to read it later, including when you are offline.<\/p>\n<p>Recommendations for a useful stylus were also requested. Andrew suggested 53&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fiftythree.com\/pencil\">Pencil<\/a> for drawing or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adonit.net\">Adonit<\/a> for writing.<\/p>\n<p>We will be meeting again in the new year with the next session featuring a <a href=\"http:\/\/nearpod.com\/\">Nearpod<\/a> demonstration from the CLAS team.
