Here\u2019s a review of some key activities and events:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Workshops<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The team ran sessions for students and staff throughout the year including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Discovery Tool digital capabilities workshops<\/strong>: For \u2018New students\u2019, \u2018Current students\u2019, \u2018Overall digital capabilities\u2019 and \u2018Teaching in HE\u2019. For a workshop, please <a href=\"https:\/\/outlook.office.com\/bookwithme\/user\/bd859d1925cf441f82f6fa207215591a@soton.ac.uk\/meetingtype\/HbO1VqBpxEy_Q0lBm1ZzlA2?anonymous&amp;ep=mcard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Book a consultation<\/a> to discuss your staff or student needs.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\u2018Taking the Strain Out of Digital Wellbeing\u2019.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\u2018Planning and preparation tips to consider when giving online presentations\u2019.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\u2018Increasing interactivity with Teams, Polls and Forms\u2019.<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>LinkedIn Learning (LiL) events: <\/strong>For staff and students.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PhD Thesis support:<\/strong> Digital Learning ran multiple seminars for PGRs to master efficient and effective use of Word and Adobe Acrobat for thesis formatting and PDF\/A-3 conversion.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The year in numbers&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>50:<\/strong> \u2018Build your digital capabilities with the Discovery Tool\u2019 workshops for students and staff.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2600: <\/strong>Staff and students attending Discovery Tool workshops.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>37: <\/strong>Minutes of our new \u2018Build your digital skills with the Discovery Tool\u2019 recorded workshop for students. You can find this in <a href=\"https:\/\/library.soton.ac.uk\/digitalskillsworkshops\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the \u2018Training and workshops \u2013 Digital skills\u2019 section of the Academic Skills Hub.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>5,336: <\/strong>People who accessed LinkedIn Learning.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>8,186:<\/strong> Hours of LinkedIn Learning content consumed. Of this,<strong> 3,249<\/strong> courses and <strong>125,520<\/strong> videos were accessed and <strong>191<\/strong> learning paths completed.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>396: <\/strong>PGRs and staff attending PhD Thesis training seminars.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>103:<\/strong> Support tickets from PGRs and staff on topics relating to using MS Word and Adobe Acrobat in creating thesis documents. The Library, iSolutions staff on ServiceLine and the Tech Hubs also handle many issues &#8211; thanks to those teams for all their help.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>200: <\/strong>Visits in the first few months to<strong> <\/strong>\u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/sotonproduction.service-now.com\/serviceportal?sys_kb_id=7c1aaf3f1b528ad0384d4043b24bcbfe&amp;id=kb_article_view&amp;sysparm_rank=1&amp;sysparm_tsqueryId=0d3eccd81b9bc25031ae65f2b24bcbe8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Research thesis \u2013 How to produce it in Microsoft Word and converting it to a PDF\/A-3\u2019<\/a>. This new Knowledge Base article, launched with the help of Marco Cattelan (Digital Coordinator, iSolutions), has reduced complexity for those receiving direct support.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>5:<\/strong> Top skills being learnt in LinkedIn Learning are (in descending order):&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\">\n<li>Microsoft Excel&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Python (Programming Language)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Data Analysis&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Project Management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Artificial Intelligence for Business&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Activities and events&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/digital-learning\/2023\/12\/06\/digital-tips-and-tricks-our-first-digiskills-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DigiSkills day took place in November 23<\/a> with involvement from multiple teams including <a href=\"https:\/\/library.soton.ac.uk\/homepage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Library<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/isolutions\/getting-help\/tech-hubs.page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tech Hubs<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/library.soton.ac.uk\/sash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Academic Skills Service.<\/a>&nbsp; A multi-day event is in planning for November 24 with a wider skills focus and additional involvement from Careers.<strong> Anna Hvass (Head of Curriculum Engagement, Library):<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cWorking with Digital Learning and the wider teams involved in skills development has been really beneficial \u2013 there are a lot of us, but it is great to come together and put the student at the centre of what we are doing like running the DigiSkills day which we are planning on expanding this year \u2013 watch this space.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Library staff have used the Discovery Tool widely within their CPD programme and Digital Learning helped signpost the skills-building resources available. <strong>Lucy Marr (Library Learning &amp; Development Lead)<\/strong> explains the role of the tool and resources:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><\/p>\n<cite>\u201c<em>We identified that digital agility was one of our learning priority areas for Library staff, so that we can continue to be at the forefront of new technology and support all our customers. The Jisc Discovery Tool has been a core part of our approach. It&#8217;s helped us to get an initial measure of digital skills and identify potential areas for development. The learning resources from Jisc and <a href=\"https:\/\/go.soton.ac.uk\/dl\/metromap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the DigiSkills Metro Map<\/a> with all the relevant LinkedIn learning pathways are extensive.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>LinkedIn Learning has been integrated with Blackboard Ultra with the Education Application team&#8217;s help. Support for instructors and learners is available: <a href=\"https:\/\/elearn.soton.ac.uk\/knowledge-base\/bb-ultra-add-lil-content\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Blackboard Ultra &#8211; add LinkedIn Learning content<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/elearn.soton.ac.uk\/knowledge-base\/bb-ultra-engaging-with-lil-content\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Blackboard Ultra \u2013 engaging with LinkedIn Learning content.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In collaboration with the Strategic Business Partners and iSolutions communications, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/learning-login\/share?account=35146660&amp;forceAccount=true&amp;redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elinkedin%2Ecom%2Flearning%2Fpaths%2Funiversity-of-southampton-university-of-southampton-student-it-skills-induction-2024-25%3FshareId=f5ef42d8-7645-42e9-8137-10d0b530e701\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University of Southampton Student IT skills induction 2024-25<\/a> was produced for new students. This guides learners to short videos on using Teams, Outlook for the Web and signposts resources to develop wider skills.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital Learning worked with the Quality Standards &amp; Accreditation team, the Doctoral College and Library to revise the thesis Guidelines and Code of Practice. This emphasises the need to consider archiving and accessibility more thoroughly &#8211; and earlier in the write-up process.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;&nbsp;External activities\/events<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The owners of the Discovery Tool, Jisc, approached Digital Learning to present a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jisc.ac.uk\/events\/students-from-staff-perspective-student-implementation-with-the-discovery-tool#event-resources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Building digital capability user group webinar<\/a> on our implementation story as \u2018super-users\u2019. They published a Southampton case study which you can access alongside others here: <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcapability.jisc.ac.uk\/case-studies\/?page=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jisc&#8217;s case studies: Building digital capability.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital Learning and the Library\u2019s Curriculum Engagement team were shortlisted for our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lilacconference.com\/awards\/information-literacy-award\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LILAC \u2018Information Literacy award&#8217;<\/a> submission.
