Kumu allows detailed mind maps to be built, with an underlying structure and customisation options, for instance colour-coding for different categories. Although it can produce sophisticated results, Simon felt that Kumu is not always intuitive, so he has shared a helpful guide:&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/321\/2018\/02\/Mind-mapping-using-Kumu.pptx\">Mind Mapping using Kumu.pptx<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Other tools<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/321\/2017\/12\/PostitPlus.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-647\" src=\"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/321\/2017\/12\/PostitPlus-225x300.png\" alt=\"Post-it Plus board\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/digital-learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/321\/2017\/12\/PostitPlus-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/digital-learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/321\/2017\/12\/PostitPlus-768x1024.png 768w, https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/digital-learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/321\/2017\/12\/PostitPlus.png 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We also had a look at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.post-it.com\/3M\/en_US\/post-it\/ideas\/plus-app\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Post-it Plus<\/a>, an iPad app that helps capture ideas generated on post-it notes, and allows them to be re-organised and edited.&nbsp; More information is available in the blog post&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.efolio.soton.ac.uk\/blog\/digitallearning\/2017\/12\/04\/on-the-first-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/popplet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Popplet<\/a>&nbsp;was also suggested as a good tool for more simple mindmaps.<\/p>\n<p>Two scanning tools with text recognition were recommended as a useful way of storing and editing printed material:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-gb\/store\/p\/office-lens\/9wzdncrfj3t8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Office Lens<\/a>&nbsp;(which allows text&nbsp;to be scanned and exported to Word) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.textgrabber.pro\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Text Grabber<\/a>.&nbsp; Both depend&nbsp;on the quality and clarity of the original text,&nbsp;although&nbsp;Office Lens will scan as an image if the text isn&#8217;t decipherable.<\/p>\n<p>A final tip shared was that&nbsp;iOS users can take advantage of the free &#8216;App of the Day&#8217;, which appears under the &#8216;Today&#8217; tab in the App Store.<\/p>\n<p>Our next session is March 20th, 10-11 in LF9.&nbsp; All are very welcome.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kumu In 2018&#8217;s first e-coffee session, Simon Fraser demonstrated&nbsp;Kumu, a powerful tool for creating mind maps.
