Over time, Nick and Steve invested in a zoom recorder, popping filter and mic stands for more professional sound quality.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to try something similar, the Digital Learning team\u00a0lend out\u00a0audio kit, so do get in touch.<\/p>\n<h2>Editing<\/h2>\n<p>The raw sound recordings are captured as wav files on an SD card, which can be loaded onto a laptop for editing.\u00a0 \u00a0The free programme\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.audacityteam.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Audacity<\/a>\u00a0allows easy editing of multiple tracks, allowing content to be removed, moved or added.\u00a0 It&#8217;s possible to adjust levels and add in sound effects or jingles, which can be sourced for free online.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u00a0need to record and edit on a mobile device, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wooji-juice.com\/products\/ferrite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrite Recording Studio<\/a>\u00a0app is another option.<\/p>\n<h2>Distributing<\/h2>\n<p>Once editing is completed, the audio file is exported as an mp3 and then uploaded to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SoundCloud<\/a>.\u00a0 This platform is free to use, also offering a Pro alternative with greater capacity and\u00a0more detailed statistics.\u00a0 Users can subscribe to the podcast and feed back\u00a0in the comments section, with\u00a0updates shared to other sites through the\u00a0RSS feed.<\/p>\n<p>There is a plethora of podcasts out there, so inventive titles that capture the attention of potential listeners help.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/the-science-shed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Science Shed<\/a> has some good examples!<\/p>\n<p>Do contact <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/engineering\/about\/staff\/nde1n09.page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nick<\/a> if you would like to know more.\u00a0 For further tips,\u00a0try our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.efolio.soton.ac.uk\/blog\/digitallearning\/tag\/podcasting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Podcasting<\/a>\u00a0tag.<\/p>\n<p>Our next session is Feb 8th (10-11 in LF9), when we will be looking at tools for mindmapping.
