The project considers the user\u2019s journey and how we can best support them throughout, so that our communication happens \u201cin the right place, at the right time, to the right people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Users are diverse, so content and delivery need to be appropriate and accessible for a wide-ranging audience.&nbsp; It\u2019s important that content can be easily discovered by different search engines globally, and that pages load quickly for all users, whatever their set-up.&nbsp; GOV.UK is a good example of a simple interface that helps users quickly find the information they need.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2153 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/digital-learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/321\/2019\/05\/OneWeb2-1024x331.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"464\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/digital-learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/321\/2019\/05\/OneWeb2-1024x331.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/digital-learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/321\/2019\/05\/OneWeb2-300x97.jpg 300w, https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/digital-learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/321\/2019\/05\/OneWeb2-768x248.jpg 768w, https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/digital-learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/321\/2019\/05\/OneWeb2.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 464px) 100vw, 464px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow does it help me?\u201d was also a key question for staff attending the session.&nbsp; The duplicated content that causes confusion for end-users has also meant a need to update information in more than one place; attendees were hopeful the project would reduce this.&nbsp; Clearer and easier access to our information online will also benefit student recruitment, as well as improve research promotion and citation.<\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s next?<\/h2>\n<p>Ayala related how a recent&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/blog\/digitalteam\/2019\/06\/07\/what-weve-learned-from-doing-a-design-sprint\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">design sprint<\/a> had proved a speedy and successful way of designing and testing undergraduate course pages, ready for the first phase delivery on August 1<sup>st<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>In order to present data helpfully, it\u2019s important that the data itself is good: this is something the project is also seeking to address.<\/p>\n<p>The latest updates on the project can be found via the Digital Team blog here: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/blog\/digitalteam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.southampton.ac.uk\/blog\/digitalteam<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our next eCoffee session is Weds 3rd July, 10-11am in LF9.&nbsp; Join us to share tips and suggestions about what works well in Blackboard, and hear from winners of the university&#8217;s Blackboard &amp; VLE Awards.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In May\u2019s eCoffee session we welcomed back Ayala Gordon and Jonny Vaughan from the Digital Team, to discuss how we provide simple, accessible, relevant, useful information, not just via university websites but digital services as a whole.
