{"id":1931,"date":"2013-05-18T14:40:23","date_gmt":"2013-05-18T13:40:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dial-a-molecule.org\/wp\/?p=1931"},"modified":"2013-05-18T14:40:23","modified_gmt":"2013-05-18T13:40:23","slug":"dial-a-molecule-submits-response-to-bis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/dial-a-molecule\/dial-a-molecule-submits-response-to-bis\/","title":{"rendered":"Dial-a-Molecule submits response to BIS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 17th May the Dial-a-Molecule Executive Group submitted a statement to BIS in response to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/science-research-and-innovation-funding-priorities-request-for-views\">Prof. Sir John O\u2019Reilly\u2019s invite<\/a> for comments on key priorities for the spending review FY 2015\/2016.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<h5>In this letter the following key recommendations were made: <\/p>\n<\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li>Continue support for science and research through protection of the research budget and related capital spending<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Increase the Government Expenditure on Research and Development to 0.7% GDP and maintain this level of funding in real terms for the longer term<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Strategically invest in UK research strengths<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Review priority areas and ensure resource focus to maintain technology lead<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Review the innovation pipeline and establish effective mechanisms for open innovation<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Enhance collaboration of the research councils and the TSB to enable transitioning in cutting-edge cross-disciplinary research and innovation efforts<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Recognise the value of chemistry and its role as a wealth generator underpinning growth in many industries<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Provide support for the Chemistry Growth Strategy and establishing of the proposed Chemicals Council<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Maintain excellence of the research environment as the premiere training ground for the future workforce<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p> The full statement can be downloaded <a href=\"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/dial-a-molecule\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/sites\/50\/2013\/06\/Dial-a-Molecule-Statement_SR-of-science-and-research-budget-FY15-16.pdf\">here<\/a> or can be found in the <a title=\"Resources\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dial-a-molecule.org\/wp\/resources\/\">Resources<\/a> area.
