Originating in the anti-colonial National Council of Education (1906) to “achieve self-reliance through empowerment of youth by imparting the best of global knowledge, technical education, and awareness of social, cultural, political, economic realities of the state, the nation and the world”, Jadavpur University has consistently set new frontiers in science, technology, humanities and social science innovation and outreach, and established unique interdisciplinary schools and centres. It has provided research and policy support for state and national governments and international bodies, and conventional and non-conventional technological development for society at large, including both established industries and disadvantaged groups, through innovation and adaptation. It is also deeply engaged in the development and validation of different types of indigenous knowledge. The university has been pursuing R&D and unique inventions in multiple areas of strategic importance with potential for local, national and global knowledge enhancement and social change. Building on these strengths, Jadavpur is now rightly poised to make a quantum leap to the level of an Innovation University.

Website: www.jaduniv.edu.in/ | Team members

Centre for Environment and Development

Set up in 1997, the Centre for Environment and Development (CED) has grown into an interdisciplinary base as an autonomous civil society organisation.
