Brief overview
The purpose of this privacy notice is to explain how personal data collected via the use of this prototype e-learning tool on data protection and the basics of mapping data flows (“prototype e-learning tool”)[1] are used and retained by Data Pitch (also referred to as “We” and “Us”).[2]
For the purpose of UK data protection laws, the data controller is University of Southampton, RC000668, established in Highfield, Southampton SO17 1BJ, United Kingdom.
The type of personal data processed
This prototype e-learning tool has been developed using a third party platform: WordPress. We have access to usage data on this platform. WordPress automatically generates and stores usage data in the form of statistics, such as: how many users answered a specific question; and, when and how many times a page was visited.
The use of third party platform
As aforementioned, this prototype e-learning tool has been developed using a third party platform: WordPress. WordPress may process other types of personal data when you use the prototype e-learning tool for their own purposes (i.e. independent of this privacy notice). Identification of data subjects
Our data processing does not require the identification of data subjects. For instance, the use of this prototype e-learning tool does not require the user to create an account and/or sign-in. Furthermore, it does not ask the user for any contact information, such as names and email addresses. We do not maintain, acquire or process additional information in order to identify data subjects.
Legal basis for the processing
It is necessary to process personal data for our legitimate interests, namely:
§ To help us deliver and improve the legal training provided by Data Pitch.
§ To ensure the prototype e-learning tool continues to function correctly.
Disclosure of this information
It may be necessary for us to disclose these user data with our Data Pitch consortium partners and project reviewers. This includes: (i) other members from the University of Southampton; (ii) Beta-I; (iii) the Open Data Institute (ODI); (iv) Dawex; and, (v) the European Commission.
GDPR compliance
We will process your personal data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Automated decision making, including profiling
Data Pitch will not use the data collected via this prototype tool for automated decision making, including profiling.
Special categories of personal data
We do not expect to process any special categories of personal data.
Retention
We will review the necessity of retaining these data every year.
Transfers
We do not expect to transfer personal data outside the European Economic Area (EEA). However, if this were to occur, we would ensure that necessary safeguards were in place.
Note that the WordPress Privacy Policy available at https://automattic.com/privacy/ also covers transfers of personal data for their own purposes (refer to section on “Transferring Information”).[4]
Your rights
As a data subject, you have a number of rights under the GDPR:
§ You have the right to access information processed about you.
§ You have the right to ask us to rectify of any inaccurate data about you.
§ You have the right to ask us to erase your personal data.
§ You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal data.
§ You have the right to ask us for a copy of your data in a commonly used, machine-readable form.
§ You have the right to object to certain processing.
However, it is important to note that as our data processing does not require the identification of data subjects, you may have to provide additional information to enable your identification and therefore exercise these rights.
Any changes to this privacy notice
Any changes to this privacy notice will be posted to the prototype e-learning tool website available at http://pz-wp-test.synote.io/ . We will update the “version number” and “last date modified” accordingly. Please check the website for updates.
