There are no volume controls since the level is pre-set.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the largest CLS rooms have <strong>hearing induction loops<\/strong> fitted, and these require the microphone to be used.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use the <a href=\"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/cls\/online-guide\/touch-screen-control-panel\/\"><strong>touch-screen control panel<\/strong><\/a> to<strong> Activate the Microphone<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>These microphones are very directional; they only pick up your voice when you are close to them. For best results you should bend the stem so the microphone points towards you.<\/li>\n<li>Use the <strong>touch-screen control panel<\/strong> to <strong>Silence the Microphone<\/strong> if required; for example, if a student comes to you with a question after a lecture.<\/li>\n<li>Some larger CLS teaching spaces also have wireless microphones; see <a href=\"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/cls\/online-guide\/wireless-xtag-microphones\/\"><strong>Wireless xTag microphones<\/strong> <\/a>for details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All CLS rooms also have a round <strong>area microphone<\/strong> attached to the lectern bench that are used to record your voice using the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/generic.wordpress.soton.ac.uk\/cls\/online-guide\/panopto-lecture-capture\/\"><strong>Panopto lecture capture system<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>These microphones are not directional and will pick up your voice if you remain within 2-3 metres of them.
