For Parents and Carers

Why is this project happening?
The number of children with food allergies is increasing.
Most allergic reactions are mild but in some cases they are life threatening.
Allergies often have a significant impact on a family’s daily life.

What will the project do?
The timing of introducing different foods into a baby’s diet is now thought to be important in determining whether or not they develop a food allergy.
There is disagreement though on the best way to do this.
This project aims to find the best approach to help prevent food allergies.

Am I eligible to take part?
Hospitals and GPs across the North-East, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are involved in the study.
If you live in one of these areas and are expecting a baby or have a child under 3 months of age, you may be contacted about participating.
You are also welcome to contact us if you want more information or are interested in taking part.

What does the project involve?
Families will be involved in the project for 12 months. You will be asked to answer some questions online when you enrol and when your baby is around 3, 7, 10 and 12 months of age.
Between 4 and 7 months of age, we will ask you to complete some online questions every week so we know what your baby is eating and drinking.
If your baby develops any symptoms of food allergy, we would like to assess them with the usual NHS allergy testing.
If you have any questions or would like to know more, please don’t hesitate to contact us
