New exhibition:\u00a0Hetain Patel’s\u00a0Trinity<\/em>\u00a0opens at John Hansard Gallery<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday 3 August – Saturday 30 October<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Hansard Gallery<\/strong><\/a>, our flagship city centre art gallery, is proud topresent Trinity<\/a><\/strong>, <\/em>the biggest solo exhibition to date by the highly acclaimed artist Hetain Patel. Trinity<\/em> is also the name for an ambitious new film by Patel, the final part of a trilogy being premiered at John Hansard Gallery this summer. Working with dance, martial arts and sign language collaborators, Trinity<\/em> represents Patel’s most significant film so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concerts announced:\u00a0Book tickets to\u00a0Turner Sims events starting in September<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Turner Sims<\/a><\/strong>, our unique on-campus concert hall,\u00a0has\u00a0announced their first flush of events for 2021-2022.\u00a0In the coming year, expect artists such as the\u00a0Chiaroscuro Quartet<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Welsh National Opera Orchestra<\/a><\/strong>, pianist\u00a0Pavel Kolesnikov<\/a><\/strong>, the\u00a0Sara Colman Band<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0celebrating the music of Joni Mitchell, extraordinary cellist and pianist\u00a0Sebastian Plano<\/a><\/strong>, jazz legends\u00a0Acoustic Triangle<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and swing stars\u00a0Hot Club of Cowtown<\/a><\/strong>. Digital exhibition:\u00a0Complicating Narratives of the Kindertransport\u00a0<\/em>from The Parkes Institute<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Parkes Institute<\/a><\/strong>, part of University of Southampton and one of the world\u2019s leading centres for the study of Jewish\/non-Jewish relations,\u00a0has launched a new digital exhibition\u00a0Complicating Narratives of the Kindertransport<\/em><\/a><\/strong>. The Kindertransport was the rescue of approximately 10,000 predominantly Jewish children who were brought to Britain temporarily in the months before the Second World War.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the exhibition, viewers can discover a selection of stories from the Kindertransport, and over 150 digitised documents from University of Southampton\u2019s Special Collections<\/a> <\/strong>are featured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

News:\u00a0Connecting Culture\u00a0workshops delivered to over 450 children and young people so far<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Artist-led workshops held as part of the University’s\u00a0Connecting Culture research project<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0have so far been delivered to over\u00a0450 children and young\u00a0people<\/strong>\u00a0in Southampton. Participants have explored what culture and creativity in Southampton means to them and\u00a0have all now achieved an\u00a0Arts Award Discover certificate!\u00a0

20 workshops\u00a0have been held in\u00a012 settings\u00a0across Southampton.\u00a0Feedback from teachers and group leaders has been good so far and a huge amount of raw research data has been gathered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

News: WSA students work with Hampshire County Council on art and inclusion project<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021,\u00a0Winchester School of Art<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>(WSA) students worked in collaboration with Hampshire County Council (HCC) to create artwork for their Inclusion Strategy. Students from\u00a0MA Textile Design<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0BA Graphic Arts<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Illustration) attended four workshops organised by the Diversity Team at HCC to develop their new inclusion strategy. Their brief was to create art to capture the principles of inclusion and diversity and how it was experienced by members of the Council.\u00a0

The artwork produced by WSA students will be included and credited in the HCC Inclusion Strategy literature, when the strategy is launched in September 2021.

Call out:\u00a0Human Worlds Festival 2021 – exhibitor registration opens to University of Southampton staff and students<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Human Worlds Festival<\/a><\/strong>, University of Southampton\u2019s annual celebration of Arts and Humanities organised by the Public Engagement with Research unit<\/a><\/strong> (PERu), is back! Registration for exhibitors is now open to all University of Southampton staff and students, and you can find the application form here.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Festival will run from Thursday 11 to Saturday 20 November. <\/strong>From 1 September, Human Worlds Festival will have a new name to mark its commitment to Arts and Humanities research and expand its impact.To be kept in the loop, follow PERu on Twitter<\/a><\/strong>, Facebook<\/a><\/strong>, and Instagram<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deadline: <\/strong>Sunday 15 August<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Black Asian Minority Ethnic Staff Network<\/a><\/strong> and Faculty of Arts and Humanities<\/a><\/strong> at University of Southampton are inviting staff and students to submit an expression of interest to create a piece of art – such as a sketch, photo, sculpture, graphic or fabric piece – to showcase cultural diversity in the University community as part of Black History Month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A range of artworks will be selected, one of which will become the feature image for the University’s Black History Month celebrations and the others will be used for other Black Asian Minority Ethnic awareness raising events and activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
