Marten Düring is one of the prominent people in this group, and he presented his work at The Connected Past symposium here in Southampton in March 2012 (you can see a video of his presentation on the TCP website). I believe they are doing very interesting work that is very relevant to archaeological computing, in particular their concern with the issues surrounding our data types and how to critically apply computational techniques to these. This group is getting increasingly large and international, and is now organising its 7th workshop. This time the focus will be on data extraction, data modeling and database systems. If you are interested in presenting, please email a 500 word abstract to Thomas Schütte by 6th October; please email him as well if you are interested in mere attendance or for any other questions that may emerge. Most presentations will be in German but English contributions are very much welcomed. Reports of previous meetings can be found on their website (in German). Dates are 16.11.2012-18.11.2012; the workshop will be in Munich and organized by Thomas Schütte.

Here is the detailed call for papers (in German):

Workshops, Datenmodellierung und Datenbankensysteme, her.

Since a few years a group of German scholars regularly convenes to discuss the potential and issues surrounding the use of network methods for the historical discipline.
