Mid-latitude seasonal mobility options in the Lower Palaeolithic&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/address>\n<address>\u00a0<\/address>\n<address><strong>\u00a0Abstract:<\/strong> Any occupation of northern Europe by Lower Palaeolithic hominins (<em>H. heidelbergensis<\/em>\/proto-Neanderthals, and <em>H. erectus<\/em> and\/or <em>antecessor?<\/em>) must have addressed the challenges of marked seasonality and cold winters, primarily during \u2018interglacial\u2019 MIS. Solutions to this \u2018winter problem\u2019 can essentially be characterised as a \u2018stick or twist\u2019 choice: i.e. year-round presence on a local scale vs. extensive seasonal mobility. However both of these potential solutions, and the \u2018interim\u2019 strategies that lie between these extremes, raise a host of practical problems. More specifically my Ph.D. research concentrates on the Quaternary record of Jersey and its connection with Northern France, using the paleoenvironmental record from archaeological sites such as La Cotte de St. Brelade and associated geology.
