This does NOT mean taking part in a research project as a study participant, but it means working alongside researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is important to embed the voice of young people in research.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Young people have the right to express their views and influence research that may affect them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The experiences and ideas of young people should be considered at all stages of the research process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who are we looking for?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are looking for young people aged between <strong><u>14 \u2013 16 years old<\/u><\/strong> with lived experience of deafness to get involved and join the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>What does lived experience mean?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Anyone who is deaf, partially deaf, partially hearing or hard of hearing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You may wear hearing aids or cochlear implants or neither. You may communicate by spoken English or by sign language or both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&nbsp;Anyone who is a sibling of someone who is deaf, partially deaf, partially hearing or hard of hearing. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anyone whose parent or parents are deaf, partially deaf, partially hearing or hard of hearing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All our members should be kind and respectful of other people\u2019s views and opinions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What will members do?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use your ideas and skills to contribute to the development of the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Join online and\/or in-person meetings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>to share your opinions about research into hearing and cochlear implants.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to share your personal experience so researchers understand what is important to you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to share your ideas and get involved with raising awareness and advocacy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Get involved with exhibits and activities to raise awareness about hearing and cochlear implants. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will share information and provide updates about projects and research in between meetings (via email, messaging and our website).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What will you get out of it?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Vouchers &#8211; We will reimburse you for your time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New skills, knowledge and experience (this will be useful for your future careers!).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase your confidence and communication skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meet new people and make friends with other group members.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An opportunity to have your say in what research we do.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An opportunity to contribute to important research in hearing and cochlear implants.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A chance to make a difference of D\/deaf and hard of hearing people.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our first meeting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We held our first meeting online in August 2025.
