We started by welcoming new members to the meeting. Kate provided updates of what has happened since the last meeting.

The objectives for the meeting were to:

1.Discuss and share feedback on an upcoming study exploring the link between a history of middle ear inflammation and hearing outcomes in children.

2.Discuss and share feedback on the AudiLOG project.

3.Discuss ideas for expanding of ALL_EARS@UoS.

Kate outlined the rationale behind a research study that is in the design stages. The study aims to explore the link between a history of middle ear inflammation and hearing outcomes in children with cochlear implants.  We want to know whether children, who have a history of middle ear infections, do less well with their implants over time, compared to children without a history of middle ear infections. To investigate this, we plan to look at patient data that has already been collected. Group members had the opportunity to ask questions to Tracey and Kate and share their thoughts on this project.

After a coffee break, Bhagyashree, a second year PhD student working in Tracey’s group gave a short overview of the service evaluation she has just carried out. The aim of the service evaluation of appointment scheduling was to assess clinic workflow and load at University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service (USAIS). Bhagyashree discussed some of her findings with the group.

After two fruitful discussions with the group about these research projects, we ran out of time to cover objectives two and three so these will be included in the next meetings agenda.

For the last part of the meeting, Kate outlined some brief mentions such as reminding group members to complete the evaluation questionnaire.
