Members of the research team and ALL_EARS@UoS ran an exhibit to raise awareness of hearing loss and cochlear implants.
ALL_EARS@UoS members talk about their experience of the day
I love talking to people about their hearing, and indeed learning more from members of the public. I was particularly struck by a teenage boy yesterday who, after doing the ‘How Loud is too Loud’ game had a chat and adjusted the settings on his phone to protect his hearing.
Sarah Smith
It was rewarding to share our stories and help promote awareness of hearing loss, the dangers of loud noises and how cochlear implants can help with deafness. It is always fun to be with our group of like-minded souls, enthusiastically led by Dr. Kate Hough. Everyone is made welcome, included and listened to.
Neil and Margaret Johnston
Personal experiences of deafness make me very aware of the disadvantages and other problems deafness can bring. They motivate me to improve awareness of techniques to alleviate or avoid avoidable deafness. I am happy to be used an example of someone whose life has changed after my hearing was partially restored by a cochlear implant. I often hear the words “Look at Chris, he’s got one” and am happy to hear them.
