Modelling and meshing

Once the 3D model has been reconstructed, this is converted into a mesh, like the one shown below. A mesh is collection of vertices, edges and faces defining the shape of a polyhedral object; the vertices are called ‘nodes’ and are joined together to form ‘elements’ of uniform shape, corresponding to the faces of the mesh.

The faces usually consist of triangles, quadrilaterals, or other simple convex polygons, but may also be composed of more general concave polygons, or polygons with holes.
The mesh can then be used for computational analysis or 3D printing.
