Day 15

It’s winter graduation week- congratulations to all BioSci students

One of our MRes students, George Wardley worked in the CNS inflammation group based at SGH

Undertaking an MRes in Biological Sciences at Southampton has been an extremely rewarding experience. I have learnt to apply top of the range  laboratory techniques, including quantitative PCR and immunohistochemistry, and was able to train to receive a personal Home Office license for performing research in the biomedical Research Facility. Few universities offer this to Master’s students and I feel this gives Southampton an edge; the ability to perform cutting edge in vivo work is immensely rewarding and provides an extra layer to the opportunities provided here. I have no doubt that this extra range of techniques has better prepared me  for the PhD I’ll be undertaking and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this course to anyone hoping to follow a career in research.

George is now studying for a PhD in neuroscience at King’s College London
