Prestigious Nomination for Excel Intern

We are extremely pleased and excited to announce that Georgina Abraham has been shortlisted as a finalist for the National Undergraduate Employability Awards 2016! This prestigious national event is held each year in order to celebrate the outstanding achievements of all those involved in undergraduate work experience. Employers, universities and students throughout the UK compete for recognition in a number of categories.

Georgina, a recent graduate of Biochemistry, spent the summer working as an intern for Taragenyx, supported by the Excel Southampton Internship Programme. Here she helped to develop the organisation’s antimicrobial coating which is used to reduce the impact of an implant on patients by optimising healing. Georgina exceeded all expectations, creating a novel formulation for the coating which is now being tested for use in the Netherlands and Edinburgh. In her short time with the company, Georgina was able to revolutionise the coating, putting Taragenyx ahead of the competition and making a valuable contribution to the industry.

Due to her outstanding work, Georgina was nominated by her employer for the Excel Southampton Award for Creativity in September. Assessed by an independent panel of judges, Georgina went on to win this award and so impressed the Excel team that we decided to nominate her for ‘Best Student Contribution to a Small to Medium-Sized Employer’ in the NUE Awards.

Against strong competition, Georgina has been shortlisted as a finalist. We hope you will join us in wishing her the best of luck at the awards in February and we’ll let you know how she gets on!
