Critical Skills for Engineering Studies (CRES) - Foundation Year

Researcher Profile

I studied for my Bachelor degree in Teaching English as Second Language (TESL) specialised in English Literature at the University of Malaya, Malaysia. I worked as an English Language teacher in the Foundation Engineering Programme in Malaysia since 2005, before pursuing my study in the UK. I completed an MA in English Language Teaching (ELT) at the University of Essex in 2011 with a research interest in academic reading and critical thinking skills. While working on my MA dissertation on academic reading and critical thinking as a generic skill, I developed an interest in critical thinking skills for engineering studies, particularly in foundation year. Currently, I am working on my doctoral research examining the existing theory of critical thinking skills and engineering education and how the current curriculum and class room practice address the expectations and learning needs of Foundation Year students in terms of their critical skills to prepare them for their undergraduate engineering programme.
