All CLS teaching rooms have either a data projector or a large flat-panel display mounted on the wall to show the output from the bench PC, a laptop or other device, a DVD player or visualiser.
If you plan to use your own laptop or other device in CLS rooms, learn how to adjust its output display settings. We recommend you spend a few minutes in a vacant CLS room to practice this so you can do it quickly at the start of your teaching sessions. See connecting a laptop for details.
Older PCs and laptops have screens with an aspect ratio (width to height) of 4:3 or 4:5. The modern trend is for laptops with widescreen displays, and newer data projectors and flat-panel displays are designed to show widescreen images with an aspect ratio of 16:9.
- You may need to adjust your laptop’s display settings so the data projector or flat-panel display shows your screen correctly.
- For data projectors an output resolution of 1280 by 1024 pixels is ideal.
- For widescreen flat-panel displays an output resolution of 1920×1080 pixels is ideal.
