The seventh episode of our ‘Teaching and Scholarship Podcast’ series, put together by Dr Scott Border, Principal Teaching Fellow in Anatomy (Medicine) is now available. This podcast is aimed at everyone in the University with a keen interest in innovative teaching practice and educational research. It is intended to cultivate our growing teaching community and provide advice on advancing careers.

In the first series we will be speaking to our leading educational figures with a track record of delivering excellence and innovation. We will be talking to them about defining teaching excellence and innovation in education as well as discussing wider issues such as TEF and the challenges faced in improving NSS ratings.

In episode 7 we talk to Lucy Green, who is an Associate Professor in developmental physiology at the University of Southampton. As a British Science Association Media Fellow, her broadcasting experience has allowed her to raise awareness about the risks of non-communicative diseases on those with poor developmental starts in life. Although on a balanced career pathway, Lucy is passionate about research informed education. This not only benefits our own students, but also the wider public and influences future policy makers. We talk to Lucy about her innovative approaches in communicating with different audiences and her involvement in organising the annual ‘Science and Engineering day’, which is a primary example of public engagement with research.
